The history of Gordon's Bay

Gordon's Bay is a little gem of a town situated on the North Eastern corner of False bay. It is also the home of the South African Naval College. The town is approximately 57 km from Cape Town and only 42 km from Cape Town International Airport both via the N2. The harbour town of Gordon's Bay was established in 1672. Initially it was named Vischers Baaij as it was used as a Fishing Post by the Dutch East India Company. It was eventually renamed to Gordon's Bay, after the Dutch explorer Robert Jacob Gordon, Commander of the Cape Garrison during 1780 - 1795. On 1 April 1966 the South African Naval College was officially established in Gordon's Bay. This beautiful seaside town is perfect for any adventurous nature lover. This harbour village is the ideal destination should you want to escape the hustle and bustle of Cape Town, whether for a day or a weekend.
